1928/1929: The Broadway Melody

Well I love musicals, so I knew I would enjoy this one.

Favorite Line: These guys aren't paying $5 to look at your face. This is BROADWAY!

The Broadway Melody 1929
NR

Netflix: You'll be tappin' your toes to this early talkie musical (the first musical to win the Best Picture Oscar) that's filled with great tunes by the songwriting team of Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown. Bessie Love and Anita Page are stage-struck sisters who both vie for the affections of song-and-dance man Charles King, with tragic results. Songs include "You Were Meant for Me" and "The Wedding of the Painted Doll." Harry Beaumont directs.

Also Nominated: Alibi, The Hollywood Revue, In Old Arizona, The Patriot
